52100 Bearing Steel Tube & Hollow Bar Grinding

High-carbon chromium bearing-steel OD grinding inquiries for tubular blanks, heavy-wall bearing sleeves and precision cylindrical parts.

PROCESS & MATERIAL SELECTION

What this grinding request involves

52100 bearing steel is selected for hard-wearing bearing components and precision parts, but tubular product is not equivalent to standard solid bearing-bar stock. A buyer should specify the available certified tubular product, starting wall and geometry, whether heat treatment has already been completed, and the required finished OD. Depending on hardness and geometry, a different grinding setup may be needed.

Applications and available processing routes are reviewed against your drawing. A page discussing a material or service does not promise stock availability, a universal tolerance, or acceptance of every tube geometry.

SUPPLY & PROCESSING

Before quoting

Identify the tube or bar construction, exact grade and starting condition. Specify the outside diameter before and after grinding, length, quantity, required surface finish, and straightness or concentricity requirements.

Material grades, product specifications & heat treatment

Examples for purchasing discussion—not blanket claims of availability or certification. Verify the correct ASTM edition, form, ordered condition and mill test report.

SUPPLIED CONDITION

Heat-treatment conditions to verify

52100 may be provided in a spheroidize-annealed condition before forming/machining, or hardened and tempered after component preparation. These are not interchangeable service states. Thermal processing can introduce bow and wall variation, so finished OD should be reviewed in conjunction with actual hardness and roundness measurement.

If the drawing calls for hardness, tensile properties or treatment after grinding, include it explicitly in the RFQ. Finishing does not itself establish a new certified heat-treated condition.

ENGINEERING & PURCHASING QUESTIONS

Questions buyers ask

Do you stock ASTM A519 52100 bearing tube?

This page describes quotation requests and does not claim routine stock. Provide the exact standard and product form so sourcing and grinding feasibility can be checked.

Can hardened 52100 tubular blanks be ground?

Feasibility depends on hardness, wall thickness, setup and surface-integrity criteria; these must be reviewed case by case.

Can I substitute 4140 for 52100?

Not without engineering approval. They differ in chemistry, hardening behavior and potential bearing performance.

QUOTE BY GRADE, SIZE & FINISH

Have a tube or oversized bar that needs OD grinding?

Send the material grade and product standard, incoming and finished dimensions, condition, wall or bore details where applicable, length, quantity and any surface, inspection or documentation requirements.
