OIL-HARDENING TOOL STEEL / MATERIAL PURCHASING
O6 is a graphitic oil-hardening tool steel used for certain machining and wear applications.
Buying O6 Tool Steel Precision Ground Rod Stock
ASTM A681 when specified; verify grade availability. Finished rod stock should be ordered with the same rigor as the material itself. Include the actual stock form, the intended further processing and any certificate or test requirement; designation alone does not define finished dimensional performance.
Condition, Machinability and Hardness
Provide exact condition, hardness and finished surface requirements.
The specified heat-treatment path changes hardness, allowable grinding stock, dimensional stability and the quality checks that may be needed. State whether OD finishing is required before or after any aging, hardening or tempering process.
