Carbon Steel Ground Rods
Carbon and free-machining steel for production machining
GRADE & CONDITION MATTER
Explore Carbon Steel Ground Rods by Exact Grade
Compare carbon and free-machining steel grades for machined pins, shafts and precision mechanical components. Drawings should identify the correct SAE designation, material standard and supplied condition, along with final OD and straightness requirements.
Select a material below for grade-specific standards, typical supplied conditions, processing considerations and quotation requirements. Grade listing does not indicate stock availability or guarantee a finished tolerance.

MATERIAL SELECTION
Selection & Processing Considerations
Review the material considerations below before specifying ground-bar finish and dimensions.
01
Free-Machining & Resulfurized Grades
1117, 11L17, 12L14, 1215, 1141 and 11L41 may be specified for production machining or grade-specific processing. Leaded grades have additional application, safety and sourcing constraints.
02
General Shafting Grades
1018 and 1045 have different carbon content and material behavior. 1144 stressproof-type bar should be specified with its required grade, cold-finishing condition, and mechanical requirements; a trade description alone does not certify properties.
BUILT AROUND YOUR SPECIFICATION
Request a quote on this material family
Provide the exact material grade, applicable ASTM/AMS or other specification, finished outside diameter, upper and lower OD limits, required length and total quantity. Include straightness method, roughness and condition when required by your drawing.
Material descriptions guide purchasing discussion; grade certification, stock availability, heat treatment and dimensional requirements are confirmed during quotation.
