Common 17-7 PH Stainless Steel Specifications & Heat-Treatment Conditions
| Material | 17-7 PH Stainless Steel |
|---|---|
| Common specification | AMS 5644 for suitably certified 17-7 PH stainless bar; ASTM A564 may apply to qualifying product forms. |
| Heat treatment or supplied temper | Precipitation-hardening conditions may include TH1050, RH950 and CH900, each requiring the specified conditioning route. |
| Precision rod RFQ | Include grade, temper/condition, outside diameter and limits, bar length, quantity, finish and documentation. |
Different heat-treatment routes create different mechanical properties; state condition explicitly.
Standards and tempers are common references; do not assume stock availability or compliance. Final temper, documentation, surface requirements and heat-treatment coordination are established by quote.
PRECIPITATION-HARDENING STAINLESS STEEL / MATERIAL PURCHASING
17-7 PH is associated with high-strength spring applications following designated conditioning.
Buying 17-7 PH Stainless Steel Precision Ground Rod Stock
UNS S17700 and correct product form/bar specification. Finished rod stock should be ordered with the same rigor as the material itself. Include the actual stock form, the intended further processing and any certificate or test requirement; designation alone does not define finished dimensional performance.
Condition, Machinability and Hardness
Specify the exact processed/aged condition.
The specified heat-treatment path changes hardness, allowable grinding stock, dimensional stability and the quality checks that may be needed. State whether OD finishing is required before or after any aging, hardening or tempering process.
Possible 17-7 PH Stainless Steel Applications
Spring elements, wire-related devices and other engineered parts.
Applications shown here are examples of why a buyer may evaluate this steel, not a statement that every use is approved or that this product is in stock.
Production and Inspection Cautions
Stock commonly occurs in forms other than rods; confirm rod availability and specified form before quoting.
What Your Rod RFQ Should Specify
17-7 PH Stainless Steel Centerless Ground & TG&P Bar Options
17-7 PH Stainless Steel Centerless Ground Bar
For 17-7 PH Stainless Steel centerless ground rods and bars, confirm the 17-7 PH condition and transformation/aging route prior to finish grinding. See centerless grinding services for the OD finishing route.
17-7 PH Stainless Steel TG&P / Turned, Ground & Polished
If your RFQ calls for 17-7 PH Stainless Steel TG&P (TGP) or turned, ground and polished bar, TG&P availability for 17-7 PH depends on the specified condition, form and sequence; obtain written confirmation. Learn about shafting and bar sourcing and surface polishing.
Centerless-ground material is not necessarily TG&P. Grade, supplied condition, turning requirements, final OD, straightness, finish and availability are confirmed by quotation. Request a quote →
- Exact grade and material standard: identify product form, condition, chemistry/melt requirements and certification.
- Size: finished rod OD and upper/lower dimensional limits, incoming OD if customer-supplied.
- Geometry: length/cut list, straightness test span, roundness and surface-finish requirement.
- Quantity: units/pounds, delivery schedule and application constraints affecting acceptance.
Ground Rod Supply and Processing
Precision Ground Rods coordinates material sourcing and precision processing according to each order. Our team reviews material sourcing and qualified outside-diameter grinding, straightening, polishing, cutting or packaging by grade, hardness, diameter and length. Confirm processing feasibility before ordering; this page makes no standard tolerance or stocked-material promise.
