Common Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy Specifications & Heat Treatment
| Material | Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy |
|---|---|
| Common bar reference | ASTM B164 for nickel-copper UNS N04400 (Monel 400) rod/bar. |
| Heat treatment / supply condition | Often annealed or cold worked; Monel 400 is not precipitation age-hardenable like Monel K-500. |
| Precision ground rod RFQ | State final OD and tolerance limits, length, quantity, material condition, surface/straightness and certificates where specified. |
Do not substitute K-500, which has a different chemistry and age-hardening response.
Standards shown are common order references, not automatic material certification. Any qualifying heat-treatment coordination, supply state and grinding feasibility must be confirmed on the written quotation.
ALLOY, NICKEL & SPECIALTY STEELS / PRECISION ROD STOCK
Solid-solution nickel-copper alloy associated with demanding corrosion-service equipment.
Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy Grade and Purchasing Standard
UNS N04400; ASTM B164 is a typical rod/bar reference when specified. Request a mill test report and condition certification whenever the material grade or final mechanical properties are critical. A ground rod’s dimensions and appearance do not establish metallurgical conformance.
Material Condition and Ground Finish
Provide cold-worked/annealed state, hardness and traceability requirements.
The manufacturing sequence may involve heat treatment, straightening and outside-diameter finishing. These steps should be planned around the material’s condition and the application’s surface/straightness requirements, especially for long slender parts.
Where Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy Ground Rods May Be Used
Pumps, marine/process valve parts and corrosion-service hardware.
The component’s design and acceptance standard must be used to establish whether the alloy is appropriate. These are application examples, not a representation that the supplier is approved for any specific regulated industry.
Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy Centerless Ground & TG&P Bar Options
Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy Centerless Ground Bar
For Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy centerless ground rod or bar, specify exact Monel 400 condition and the surface required by the fluid-service application before grinding. See centerless grinding for diameter and finish considerations.
Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy TG&P / Turned, Ground & Polished
For Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy TG&P (TGP) or turned, ground and polished bar, TG&P for Monel 400 is subject to grade-specific material availability and documented finish requirements. See material sourcing and bar polishing options.
TG&P describes a full processing route, not merely a ground OD. Verify grade, condition, dimensional limits, bar length, finish, inspection and availability in a written quotation. Request pricing →
Engineering Considerations
Corrosion suitability depends on exact environment and application; no generic guarantee of seawater service.
Required Details for a Complete Rod Quote
- Alloy: full designation, standard and condition, plus any material test report or special examination requirements.
- Geometry: finished outside diameter, upper/lower limits, length, straightness with inspection span and surface roughness where specified.
- Processing: identify supply of finished rod stock versus grinding customer-owned material, heat-treatment sequence and protective handling.
- Production: quantity, release schedule, required delivery date and ship-to area.
Ask About Availability and Precision Processing
Precision Ground Rods coordinates sourcing and finishing inquiries on a quotation basis. We assess material availability and manufacturing suitability per order, including outside-diameter grinding, straightening, polishing and cut-to-length operations as appropriate.
