MATERIAL SELECTION
Selection & Processing Considerations
Review the material considerations below before specifying ground-bar finish and dimensions.
01
Chromium-Molybdenum & Related Grades
4130, 4140, 4142 and 41L40 share broad alloy families but should never be substituted without engineering review. Leaded 41L40 may require special purchasing review.
02
Case-Hardening, Bearing & High-Strength Alloys
8620, 86L20, 9310, 52100, 4340 and 8740 have separate mechanical-property and heat-treatment expectations. State the specified condition, process route and inspection standards.
BUILT AROUND YOUR SPECIFICATION

Provide the exact material grade, applicable ASTM/AMS or other specification, finished outside diameter, upper and lower OD limits, required length and total quantity. Include straightness method, roughness and condition when required by your drawing.
Material descriptions guide purchasing discussion; grade certification, stock availability, heat treatment and dimensional requirements are confirmed during quotation.
